Our Approach

We believe that the best physiotherapy care is when the underlying difficulty is assessed, addressed and that future difficulties can be prevented. Your goals dictate how treatment moves forward. Many patients will come in with a change in function that they believe is a “normal” part of aging, pregnancy, postpartum etc. Just because something like peeing your pants when you sneeze postpartum is typical it does not mean it’s normal and you should not have to live with this change in function. Physiotherapy combines evidence-based knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body along with a biopsychosocial approach to help treat the whole person.

Preventing difficulty is always easier than treating a problem once it’s started. Having an orthopedic, pelvic floor or pediatric assessment to determine if your body has any pre-existing vulnerabilities that may predispose you to future difficulties  are important. Often times a current difficulty could have been prevented if effective exercises were put in place before the problem started to address underlying issues. For example, an older adult may come to have a balance assessment done. This prevention appointment helps to determine if there are any current balance difficulties and helps to ensure balance is maintained during aging. This can help prevent future falls, fractures and limitations in functions.

Let’s take your function to new heights!

Let’s overcome difficulties and reach your goals!

Hello! I’m Katie

Registered Physiotherapist

It’s great to meet you! I look forward to helping you on your journey to meet your goals. I know first hand how frustrating it can be to be in pain, have reduced mobility or impairments in your function and I appreciate that you want to make sure you are working with a provider who get help you be your best self. I started The Traveling Physio four years ago as a way to bring high quality, convenient and affordable physiotherapy to those who need it most.  My approach to physiotherapy is to put the FUN in functional. I am a positive and motivating individual, who has a proven track record of helping even those who believe “they are beyond help”. I love working with individuals from all walks of life and learning as much from my patients as they learn from me. A large part of my practice is dedicated to being a lifelong learner. I am continually taking new courses and certifications to upgrade my knowledge and enjoy taking on challenging cases.

My favourite areas of focus are pelvic floor/pregnancy, orthopedic and pediatric concerns. As a former competitive athlete, I appreciate the concerns that an injury can bring. As a current recreational athlete, I can also appreciate the joys of functional movement and the fear that pain may limit participation. As a birth educator/birth nerd, I love to talk about all things pregnancy, postpartum and parenthood!

When I am not helping patients, my favourite hobbies are rock climbing, triathlons and spending time outside. I am a volunteer ski patroller and provide low-cost and no-cost tutoring to youth in my community.

Hello! I’m Valerie

Registered Physiotherapist

Hi, I’m Valerie! I am a hard-working physiotherapist with a passion for helping others, and a drive to learn. I graduated from the University of Guelph in 2016 with an honours degree in bio-medical science. I knew at that time physiotherapy was the career for me, so I quickly jumped into my Master’s of Physical Therapy program at Queen’s University that fall. Since graduating from my physical therapy program in 2018 I have worked in different busy private practice settings in the Guelph/Elora-Fergus area treating a mix of orthopedic and pelvic physiotherapy clients.

Whether I’m treating orthopedic or pelvic physiotherapy clients, my favourite part of my practice is being able to explain my findings to help patients understand what their body is trying to tell them, and then work together with each patient to get them back to feeling their best. I place an emphasis on really getting to know each of my patients and understanding their specific goals with physiotherapy. In treatment I use various different techniques including: manual therapy, soft tissue release, acupuncture, dry needling, education and specialized exercise. Some of my favourite conditions to treat are any orthopedic concerns such as shoulder pain, hip and knee pain, and post-surgical rehab. In addition, I am also particularly interested in pregnancy and post-partum care.

Outside of work I enjoy working out, horseback riding, golfing, skiing, hiking, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and helping you on your journey!
